Former Richmond Park MP Zac Goldsmith has received a temporary driving ban following four instances of speeding in London last year. The Conservative peer was caught exceeding speed limits twice in Twickenham, as well as on roads in Paddington and Chelsea.
District Judge Nina Tempia imposed an interim disqualification, prohibiting Lord Goldsmith from driving until his sentencing in March. The former environment minister was found speeding in a hybrid electric Volkswagen Golf between April and August 2023.
According to court documents, on April 27th, Goldsmith was recorded traveling at 29mph along Chelsea Embankment, where the limit is 20mph. On May 31st, he drove at 46mph on the A316, surpassing the 40mph limit, and on August 3rd, he was caught speeding at 47mph on the same road. On July 18th, he traveled at 28mph on Bayswater Road, adjacent to Kensington Gardens, where the speed limit is 20mph.
Lord Goldsmith has pleaded guilty to the four speeding incidents and faces three additional driving-related offences, including one in Somerset, as reported by The Evening Standard. The sentencing is scheduled for March 18th at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, and Lord Goldsmith did not attend the hearing.
