A deal struck with developers may potentially bring a police base back to Chiswick at the former station site and could help reduce the wave of crime currently sweeping through the Chiswick High Road.
Birchgrove, planning to convert the building into flats for the elderly, agreed to allocate space for Metropolitan Police facilities, following lobbying by local councillors.
The development at 205-211 Chiswick High Road awaits planning permission, scheduled for consideration by the borough planning committee last year's end.
Currently, Sergeant Jim Cope's local police team serving Chiswick wards must commute from Acton, impacting response times. The return of police to the site was proposed during a public meeting on crime by local councillors. Cllr Ranjit Gill facilitated discussions between Birchgrove and Police Superintendent Anil Puri, aiming to secure a Chiswick base.
The new development is anticipated to provide police facilities, including secure changing rooms, charging points, and meeting spaces. This move enhances community security and cohesion, benefiting both residents and police presence.
The proposal is endorsed by Hounslow Council leader Shantanu Rajawat. The timeline for the facility's opening hinges on Birchgrove's project completion and planning approval, with comments invited through Hounslow Council's planning pages (P/2023/1632).
