London Mayor Sadiq Khan Proposes 'Off-Peak Fridays' to Boost City's Economic Recovery

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has unveiled a proposal for 'Off-Peak Fridays' on the city's transport network, aiming to revitalize London's economy and incentivize office attendance.

With tube journeys during the week reaching 85% of pre-pandemic levels and weekend figures already restored to 100%, Fridays remain sluggish at only 73% of pre-pandemic levels.

To address this, Khan proposes a three-month trial starting in March, offering off-peak fares for all Tube and rail journeys on Fridays. By making transport more affordable and appealing, the initiative seeks to reignite commuter enthusiasm and support local businesses.

Khan emphasized his commitment to alleviating the cost-of-living crisis and supporting London's economic recovery, including freezing TfL fares for another year. He views the trial as an opportunity to invigorate Fridays, vital for the vibrancy of London's commercial and cultural sectors.

Encouraging Londoners to participate, Khan believes the trial will gauge the effectiveness of increasing ridership and provide a much-needed boost to businesses, contributing to London's ongoing journey towards prosperity and inclusivity.
